This past fall we started a project in northwestern Wisconsin near Grantsburg. Once completed this lake home will have a great mix of log elements on both the exterior and interior. The exterior siding is LP Smartside with 7″ half log trim around the doors and windows. The upper gables have natural cedar shakes. The interior carries on the rustic theme with a great mix of 8″ rustic half log siding, knotty pine and drywall.
Happy New Year to everyone from us here at Keen Construction. 2015 was a busy year here and we look forward to working with everyone in 2016. Now is the time to start planning your spring and summer build with researching, model visits and narrowing down plan thoughts and ideas.
Quite a few times we get asked if we build anything other than homes and cabins. The answer to that is…Yes! We had built a log home a few years back for one of our clients and this summer we returned to the site to construct a pole barn with log siding to match the house. As you can see by the photos below this log barn turned out great!
Thank you to everyone that stopped by the Keen Construction booth this past weekend at the Lake Home and Cabin show in Minneapolis. We enjoyed talking with all of you about your upcoming projects. Even though winter is in full swing here now is the time to plan for your spring and summer projects. Both new construction and remodels take time to plan, gather costs and get the proper building permits. A few months can get eaten up in a hurry! We are here to help you through those stages to take you from concept to completion. Feel free to call or email with any questions on your project or visit our website for more information.
Show season is just about here and the first one of the year is the Lake Home and Cabin show at the Minneapolis Convention center on Feb. 6- 8. This is a great show and we are looking forward to being there. Shows like this one are a great resource for your new construction or remodeling project. We get asked quite a bit if we build homes other than log homes. Yes, we build all types of homes and cabins throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. If you make it to the show stop by booth #831 and say hello.
Hopefully everyone had a great Labor Day weekend as well as a great summer. The weather the last couple of days has been a nice break from the recent heat. You could feel a bit of fall in the air already! We have a couple of projects underway right now and some soon to start. Fall is a great time to get started. The temps are cooler, less bug and usually less rain than in the springtime.
Fall and winter are great times to start thinking of building for spring. It allows you to get out and see some models before the snow flies, shop suppliers and builders and get your house plans started to get some pricing. It is crazy how fast that time can fly between now and spring time!
Don’t forget to keep on eye on our website for updated photos of our projects. You can see samples of our log homes we build as well as conventional homes. Our website is at www.keenconstructioninc.com. Also, if you want more information specifically on log homes head over to the website for Wild River Log Homes.
Summer may feel a long way off for some of us but one sure indicator that summer will eventually get here is the Lake Home and Cabin show at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The show is a great way to gather information about all things cabin related here in Minnesota and Wisconsin. As cabin and log home builders we enjoy being there and talking to everyone that stops by. Whether you are considering building new or remodeling an existing cabin or lake home, we are here to answer your questions. You can find Keen Construction in booth number 413 at the 2013 Minneapolis Lake Home and Cabin Show. When you get to the show make sure you stop by and say hello.
It was a busy 2012 for Keen Construction. We stayed busy with new construction projects from east central Minnesota on up to Duluth and have winter project currently underway. Spring projects are in the planning stages right now and before you know it that time of year will arrive. The new year brings the home show season. We will again be attending the Minneapolis Lake Home and Cabin Show at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The dates for that show are February 8 – 10, 2013. If you make it to the show stop by our booth to say hello. Thanks to everyone for a great 2012 and have a Happy New Year.
Hello! Wow. The summer and fall have flown by. Things have been busy here at Keen Construction this year. We currently have home building projects underway in Isanti, Hinckley and Duluth, Minnesota. While we do build quite a few log homes here in Minnesota and Wisconsin we get asked if we build conventional homes as well. The answer to that is yes, we can build conventional homes and cabins as well as rustic and log.
We figured we should get a few photos up on here to get everyone updated. The photos below are of one of our current projects in Duluth, MN that isn’t too far from completion.
We get a fair amount of inquiries about rustic hybrid homes. That can be a pretty broad description being so many materials and styles can be incorporated in the plan. The interior usually consists of a mix of wood such as knotty pine and also some drywall. We recently completed one that used some rustic peeled half log on the interior of the home as well. Exterior can range from half log siding that is either round or flat, cedar siding and/or shakes to cement board and some exterior stone. A rustic hybrid home is an excellent way to achieve the coziness of a log cabin without using a lot of log. Some people feel there can be “too much log” in a log home but yet want to maintain some of the appeal of log in their plan.
I wanted to get this blog up with some recent photos of our latest project that we finished this past spring. Landscaping is still underway and soon grass will be growing. The first photo shows the mix of interior log, knotty pine and drywall in the kitchen with hardwood floors accenting the mix of interior wood.
This next photo is taken in the great room and shows more interior half log. So far, this home looks like a log home right? Well, check out the next photo.
Below you can see the exterior isn’t log or half log. The exterior is cement board on this home. Notice the extra wide over hang. It makes a great covered sidewalk and grilling area.
The upper gables have cement board shakes on them to add contrast. It makes a great look!
Here is a photo of their four season porch with T&G knotty pine on the walls and ceilings. This is a heated space and can be used all year.
Rustic hybrid homes are a great way to go to still get a rustic home without too much log and can save a bit on building costs as well. For more information on rustic hybrid homes give us a call or email.
Hello and thanks for stopping by. Somehow the Fourth of July got here in a hurry! Hopefully you are having a great day with friends and family. With this hot weather it is easy to say things have really heated up around here but it has been and will be a busy summer as Minnesota log home builders. We just wrapped up a cabin remodel and have a couple of log home projects soon to start and have plans being drawn for other log cabins to be started later this year or early next spring. As log home builders in Minnesota and Wisconsin we offer both half log and full log construction but we have seen a trend the last couple of years leaning towards half log construction. Researching log homes can be confusing and it is a big decision. Full log is the perfect style for some while half log makes sense for others. We try to stay out of the argument but will sit down and discuss both options with you and help you make the decision that is right for you. There are some great half log products out there and when the project is done you won’t be able to tell if it is half log or full log construction.
Thanks again for taking the time to visit our blog and website and let us know if you have any questions regarding log homes.
